
Uji City has friendship cities relationships with Nuwara Eliya, Xianyang, and Kamloops. In the age of globalization we strive to develop interchange by citizens, promoting friendship and mutual understanding.
Nuwara Eliya is located in the central highland, the southern part of the Island of Ceylon, with a population of 25,000. Being the summer capital during the British colonial period, it was developed as a summer resort and famous for high-end teas. It is as notable for producing teas as Uji City.
Xianyang is located in the center of Shaanxi Province, the central part of China, with a population of 4.83 million. The spinning and electric industry are the major industries, and it also supplies the most food for the Shaanxi Province. Xianyang has a long history, serving as the capital for 11 dynasties including Zhou, Qin, Han, and Sui since the 11th century B.C.
Kamloops belongs to British Columbia in southwest Canada, located in northeast Vancouver with a population of 82,000. The origin of "Kamloops" is from Native Indian, meaning "meeting of the waters."
The Shuswap Indians used to live on hunting and gathering in this area; however, Caucasians settled in about 200 years ago and engaged in agriculture and cattle breeding.
